The Somali-Speaking Intelligent Service Robot is an AI-powered service assistant model designed to interact naturally with users in the Somali language. Developed by the SIMAD AI Institute, the system demonstrates how Artificial Intelligence, robotics, and natural language processing can be combined to deliver practical, locally relevant solutions.
Using advanced speech recognition and NLP, the robot understands spoken Somali and responds naturally in Somali. Customers can interact with the robot by asking questions such as “Maxaa maanta menu-ga ku jira?” or “Immisa ayuu burger-ku yahay?”. The robot converts spoken Somali into text, interprets the intent using an NLP model, and retrieves relevant information—such as menu items, ingredients, and prices—from a connected database.
A text-to-speech module then generates clear and natural Somali responses, allowing the robot to explain meal options, ingredients, and costs in an interactive and user-friendly manner. Integrated IoT connectivity ensures that orders, menus, and prices remain synchronized in real time across the system.
